Revelation 20:11 - 15
And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And i saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened, which is the book of life: and the death were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and the death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
The image to the left was taken shortly before Independence Day, 2003--just outside of Pocatello, Idaho. This fire was started by several teenagers who were playing with firecrackers on a scorching-hot summer afternoon. Such behavior was a very risky endeavor--simply because the Blackrock area is typically bone-dry during most of the summer. A majority of the topography in this area sits on a south-facing aspect, which the sun blasts with its radiation for most of the day.
Each human shares something very unique with the teenagers' who didn't realize the danger that they were in until the wildfire started. All humans are living on borrowed time from God. We're like dry and waterless grass--just waiting to be burned in hell for time and eternity. The only thing that keeps God from ending our lives and immediately sending us to hell is that He is gracious and long-suffering. His patience is beyond comprehension. He patiently waits for all sinners to fall on their knees in submission to His great love that He has shown the world through Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son. Yet most humans will never do such a thing. The day is rapidly approaching when God's plan on earth will be complete. That moment of time will arrive when this world will be so wicked that no more will call upon His Son, Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is the only route into the book of life. He lived a perfect life, died for the sins of the world, and was raised from the dead so that all who call on His name will be saved from an eternal prison sentence in hell where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Even more so, everyone who calls out to Jesus will live with Him forever and know Him. God's plan is simple yet very difficult. We must realize the depravity of our condition before God. We must come to perceive the real danger of the firecrackers in our life--the indwelling sin that that has completely polluted and utterly broken our relationship with God. Christ must be called upon and asked to heal our broken hearts. One must put their complete trust into Jesus Christ--as a helpless child must rely entirely on his parents to provide for him.
“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” Hebrews 3:15
