In the 16th Century, Martin Luther discovered that each person is justified in the sight of God through faith alone, in Christ Jesus alone. God opened Luther's eyes as he was reading through the Holy Scriptures of his Bible. His spiritual eyes were opened and as he read the following passage:
Nothing produced by man is capable of saving anyone from the torments of eternal hell fire. Every person who has lived on this earth has sinned against God. And because sin dwells in the heart of each person, we all deserve the just penalty--eternal death (complete and permanent separation from God's love and His glory.) Jesus Christ, the Holy Son of God, was nailed to a tree by sinful men. He died for the sin of this world. After his physical body had laid three days in the grave, God Himself resurrected His only Son from the dead.
Romans 5:6-10--For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
Romans 1:17--'For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.'
