Let us not miss the point of the Scripture text that is embedded on the picture included in this blog post.
Sinners are saved by grace.
Mephiboseth was a crippled man who likely would have died if God hadn't moved King David's heart to show the kindness of God to someone in the house of Saul (II Samuel 9:3).
Mephiboseth considered himself to be like a dead dog (II Samuel 9:8). Because of God's kind nature and grace, Mephiboseth, the poor and crippled man was rescued and given a life of hope--he was given blessings beyond nature (II Samuel 9:7, 9-13).
The lost sheep, which was found by the Good Shepherd in Luke 15:6, was able to repent because it was found. The Good Shepherd initiates the finding of sinners who are wandering in a lost state of sin. The Good Shepherd is the One who initiates the rejoicing over each sinner who repents after having been shown the lovingkindness and grace of God.
If we continue to the next parable, in Luke 15:8-10, we see that a woman lost her coin. She diligently searched for and found her coin that she lost. The coin didn't find the woman nor did the sheep find the Good Shepherd nor did Mephiboseth find King David's rescue party.
What a wonderful and loving God who seeks sinners who are lost in the blackness of sin and despair. Give thanks unto the LORD for he is good. His steadfast love endures forever. Yes, his steadfast loves endures forever.
